Musky aromas of black raspberry, smoky minerality and spices. Smooth, ripe and sweet, with modest depth and good early appeal to the berry and spice flavors. This medium-bodied village wine finishes with dusty, even tannins.

The 2011 Vosne-Romanee Village has a pretty bouquet, perhaps a little rustic for Domaine d’Eugenie, but very attractive all the same, bouncing along with red cherries, crushed strawberry and bergamot. The palate is slightly leafy and autumnal on the entry with fine tannins and a light, unimposing finish that suggest this is best consumed in the next six years. Drink now-2018. Importer: Country Vintners (US) and Berry Brother & Rudd (UK)

(tasted from cuve, where it was awaiting a December bottling; a blend of three parcels, including the bottom section of Brulees, which director Frederic Engerer and winemaker Mallard do not consider to be of true premier cru quality): Medium red. Redcurrant and strawberry liqueur on the slightly dull nose and palate. A bit dry and lean today, showing modest density and sweetness to its red fruit and smoke flavors. Finishes with a suggestion of autumn leaves. I wanted more verve.

From the communes of Vigneaux, and the bottom bit of Brûlées (because they don’t reckon it’s up to premier cru standard – a little bit rustic). Very fine upbringing with lots of fancy wood but lacks a bit of life. Lots of smart oak! (JR)
