Tasting notes
The 2001 Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Guy Louis reveals spicy new oak in the nose along with elegant cassis and blackberry fruit, medium to full body, and precision as well as freshness. It will be even better with 1-3 more years of cellaring; it should keep for 10-12 years. Importer: Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel. Red-ruby color. Superripe aromas of sweet black raspberry, smoke, pepper and leather. Enticing flavors of black raspberry, leather, bitter chocolate and dried herbs nicely firmed by harmonious acidity. Not especially complex but supple and easygoing. Finishes with firm, ripe tannins and a note of bitter chocolate.
Good saturated medium ruby. High-toned but primary aromas of black cherry, licorice and mint. High-pitched and rather tightly wound, with good but not outstanding concentration but nice flavor definition. Here the dusty tannins are more obvious today than in the Costieres de Nimes example.
