The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Charmes 2011 has a sultry, iodine and seaweed-scented bouquet with touches of damp moss developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a masculine, standoffish entry. Gritty and a little surly, I would have liked more charm in this Charmes. Drink over the next four or five years.

Deep crimson. Oak char on the nose. Moderate fruit weight. A touch of that 2004 green pyrazine character underneath, giving a dry finish. (JH)
