This is not even a Riserva but I could see why the Gambero Rosso tasters were so taken with it. It's very pure and – unusually in this selection – rather delicate. So delicate, in fact that it's almost fizzy. It's quintessential refreshment and should provide great, appetising, indubitably Tuscan drinking over the next five or more years. (JR)
The deep ruby-colored 1999 Chianti Classico, a blend of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Merlot, Canaiolo, and Malvasia Nera, displays a sweet nose of ripe cherries, fudge, and cocoa. About the producer
Castello di Ama is one of the pre-eminent estates in Chianti Classico. Situated in the southern-most district of the appellation, the estate has only been making wine since the late 1970s but has since built a reputation as one of the region’s best.
