Inky purple. Complex, highly aromatic scents of musky dark fruits, vanilla, woodsmoke and potpourri. Perfumed and sweet in the mouth, with supple texture and deep, spice-laced cassis and cherry compote flavors. Dusty tannins gain strength with air and give grip to the long, sappy, sharply focused finish.

70-year-old vines. Mid crimson. Low-key nose with some smokiness. Very serious. Bone dry but with really classic Côte Rôtie fruit. (JR)

Smells a little richer than the straight Côte Rôtie but has a similar peppery fragrance and dark small-berried fruit. Then more structured, with the acidity and tannins making themselves felt although in fine balance. Dense but approachable. (JH)
