Score 16/20 · Drink 2008-2013, Jancis Robinson MW, Jun 2006

100% Syrah, mica-schist soil, vines average more than 30 years’ old, 35 hl/ha yield, 100% de-stemming, 25 day maceration, 24 months in new oak, MLF in barrel. Mid crimson. Very fragrant, even if a good part of the fragrance seems due to the cooper rather than the vines. Meaty and savoury and not exaggerated although not quite ready. This is a halfway style between ancient and modern. (JR)

Score 90/100 · Drink 2007-2015, Robert Parker, Jun 2003

The 2000 Cote Rotie Les Grandes Places reveals more graphite, creme de cassis, blackberry, and earthy aromas. With airing, scents of Asian spices and new saddle leather also emerge. Medium-bodied, structured, tannic, and closed but promising, this 2000 will be at its peak between 2007-2015. The president of the syndicate of Cote Rotie growers, the young, dynamic, and talented Jean-Michel Gerin continues to build a strong following for his progressive, modern-styled, barrique-aged Cote Roties. Gerin’s 2000 Cote Roties are extremely successful (he eliminated 60% of the crop through severe pruning and grape cutting in the vineyard). Like all his wines, they were bottled unfined and unfiltered. Importers: New Castle Imports, Myrtle Beach, SC; tel. (843) 448-9463 and Langdon-Shiverick, Cleveland, OH; tel. (216) 861-6800
