Tasting notes
A good nose which shows breadth and dark fruit with a touch of minerality. Chewy and substantial on the palate, and quite complex. Good. FINE+RARE

The 2012 Certan de May offers fleshy red fruit on the nose intermingled with black truffle, leather and tobacco aromas. It needs a little more vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, more expressive than the aromatics with a dab of white pepper. The finish shows admirable finesse, and I would broach this now. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.
Tasted blind. Pale ruby. Lots of evolution on the nose. The tannins have completely disappeared, making this a pleasurable drink now, even though it has no long-term future. Relatively light, but long! (JR)
Tasted blind. Sweet and round with very flattering gentle ripe fruit character. This is Pomerol at its most flattering. Really rather gorgeous and a great shame to have to spit this out. Neat, dry finish. No exaggeration; everything in its right place. Rather discreet. (JR)
