Tasting notes
Better from bottle than it was in cask, the deep plum/ruby-tinged 2003 Certain de May offers scents of cedar, dried herbs, roasted meats, and black cherries. Supple and medium-bodied with good flavor depth as well as soft but moderate tannin, it can be enjoyed now and over the next 10-12 years.

Red-ruby. Black cherry, licorice and minerals on the nose (in a second sample, I picked up a hint of stewed fruits). Moderately ripe and concentrated, with good texture and sweetness, but a bit youthfully clenched today. The serious but even tannins build on the persistent finish. Christian Moueix broke with Certan de May in 2001 but resumed his contract with this chateau in March of this year.
