Good full red. Very pure but subdued aromas of raspberry, rose petal and spices, along with a suggestion of chocolate. Then almost surprisingly plush and sensual on the palate, and distinctly sweeter than the 2007 classico , showing a flavor of cherry liqueur. Extract-rich and dense in texture without betraying any heaviness. Finishes with excellent spine and thrust and good medicinal reserve. This will need time to absorb its serious dusting of tannins.
Brilliant ruby. Sweet and rich and much more obviously velvety and thick than the regular bottling. More jagged in impact. High acid. Chewy finish. (JR)
The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Altero is a gorgeous, sleek wine laced with dark red cherries, kirsch, menthol, pine and spices. Sweet floral notes wrap around the silky finish. The 2007 stands out for its finessed texture and impeccable overall balance. I can't remember a more polished, elegant vintage of Altero. Poggio Antico hit it out of the park. The 2007 spent 24 months in 500-liter French oak tonneaux.
