I have to admit, the 1999 Gaia & Rey isn't my style, but there is no denying the wine has aged exceptionally well. Butter, mango, ripe apricotos and popcorn are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. A rich, creamy finish laced with sweet French oak rounds things out nicely. At 13 years of age, the 1999 Gaia & Rey remains surprisingly youthful.

Green-tinged color. Aromatic nose combines melon, lime, fresh herbs, sexy oak tones and a suggestion of exotic fruits. Silky and opulent in the mouth; smooth, fat and delicious. Lovely ripe acids give the flavors excellent clarity. The crop level was just 30 hectoliters per hectare, says Gaja, and just 25 in '98.
