Tasting notes
Hot vintage with a late heatwave that came to Beechworth only after picking. Sweet and medium weight. Satisfying. Though the fruit is dominated by light astringency on the finish. Sweet and round. (JR)

Giaconda’s 2008 Chardonnay is every bit as good as I remember it. It’s developing into a broad, rich, nutty styled white with aromas of warm peaches, apricots and butterscotch over hints of ginger, mace and yeast extract. The palate is far more elegant than the nose suggests with a silken texture medium to full body and concentrated flavor layers. The richness is nicely offset by a fine acid backbone, and it finishes with a great persistence of savory / toasty flavors. Delicious now, it should cellar to 2020+. Lemon straw colour. Pungent struck-match nose. And real fruit impact on the palate. Ready to enjoy but very rewarding! A complete package in which the acidity is fully integrated. It certainly isn’t marked! (JR)
Stelvin closure. Zesty and vibrant and very youthful. Sweet start and then dense. Great in an Australian context but perhaps not quite as fresh as a burgundy at the same price? Bit of butterscotch. (JR)
