Score 88/100 · Drink 2018-2028, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2018

The 1999 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roy from Dugat-Py is still very youthful, bursting with exuberant aromas of cherry, blackberry, grilled meat and creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium-full, with an ample mid-palate and a deep core of fruit, framed by a notable chassis of tannin for a 19-year-old village wine, its finish long and savory. This is a touch more overtly oaky and extractive than the Dugat-Py wines of the new millennium, and while the 1999 Grand Crus are resolving beautifully, I suspect the Coeur du Roy will never be quite as harmonious.
