The exceptional 2001 Shiraz Old Vine (from 110- and 40-year old vines) was aged 24 months in French and American oak, and bottled unfiltered. A saturated ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of creosote, blueberries, blackberries, melted licorice, and a hint of espresso. Sweet and full-bodied, with copious fruit as well as style and grace, it is tempting to say these wines are too big and rich, but they are controlled, with surprisingly fine definition. This 2001 should drink well for 10-15 years. Wine Advocate.August, 2003
