The 2006 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie blanc (3,100 bottles produced) is a blend of 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne. Abundant notes of honeysuckle, white peaches, currants, quince, and a hint of hazelnuts and smoke emerge from this full-bodied, thick, rich white. Consume it over the next decade. Domaine des Remizieres is one of the few family-run estates in Hermitage. Like the Chave family in Mauves, this closely-knit unit of father, Philippe Desmeures, and daughter, Emilie, manage the vineyard and produce modern-styled, super-concentrated wines that see plenty of new oak. The level of concentration found in these red wines is among the most impressive found in their respective appellations (i.e., Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, and St.-Joseph). 2006 is a superb vintage for this property, and 2007 is certainly very good. Light gold. Pungent, room-filling aromas of honeyed pear, peach, blood orange, lavender and smoky agave cactus; this smells like high-end tequila. Intensely minerally and extremely deep, offering highly concentrated citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a complex undercurrent of smoky herbs and minerals. Finishes with outstanding thrust. As distinctive and soil-driven a white wine as I tasted this year.
