Effusively tropical more than bush fruit-scented in the nose, the wine spreads out opulently on the palate, with blueberry and raspberry preserves, honey and a lovely note of malt. For all of its richness this is transparent to mineral and inner-mouth aromatic nuances and has a fine sense of flavor interplay. While intensely concentrated, it is elegant and finishes with real lift. 2 stars.

The 2003 Riesling Spatlese Oberhauser Brucke is flint-scented, medium-bodied, and silky-textured. Well-balanced, it explodes on the palate with loads of white fruits, notes of red berries, and spices. Suave, angle-free, and exceptionally long in the finish, this effort is a candidate for drinking between 2005 and 2020. Bravo to Helmut Donnhoff for this magical line-up!
