Deep ruby. Very, very, slightly jammy note on this and then utterly correct fruit with some freshness. Very lively. Full of health. And full of tannin! Still pretty severe. Wait! (JR)

Good medium-deep red. Wild berries, meat, leather and mocha on the somewhat reduced nose. Rich and broad but less obviously open and sweet than the Roncieres. Blacker in fruit character, with some complicating herbal nuances but a bit less verve today than the Roncieres. This needs at least two years of patience and at the moment it appears to rely more on its tannins than on its acids for balance.

Good full red. Captivating, extroverted aromas of plum, currant, mocha, Oriental spices and dried flowers. Fat, lush and fine-grained, with good richness for the year. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and a whiff of smoked meat. This may be showing especially well because it's a bit more advanced in its elevage, having been sulfited two months prior to my visit.

Cask sample. Fuller, richer, slightly burnt nose. Dense. Still very long term. Quite long and impressive. (JR)
