Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Saint Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien 2011 from Olivier Lamy has a more austere, mineral-driven bouquet compared to Jean-Claude Bachelet’s, adorned with granite and flint aromas; reserved but well defined. The palate is more primal than its peers with grapefruit, green apple and freshly sliced pear notes. The acidity is well judged and there is a pleasing minerality on the reserved, quite serious finish. Fine.

The 2011 St. Aubin Les Murgers des Dents de Chien is one of the more understated wines in this range. Weightless, floral and gracious on the palate, the 2011 is beautifully layered and bright throughout. There is plenty of energy and salinity in the glass, but the wine's mid-weight personality argues for near-term drinking.
