Tasting notes
Catastrophic vintage. With 1993 the most difficult, cold vintages in Ribera del Duero. Rain at the end of the season. We made a third less than usual because of the selection. 1997 total production was very low: 40% of 1996. Quite sweet and slightly simple on the nose – more ‘red wine’ than unmistakably Ribera del Duero. Still pretty astringent. (JR)

Looks very youthful. Rather simple, strawberry nose. Crude structure on the palate with a lack of focus. (JR)
Full, deep ruby-red. More expressive, evolved aromas of redcurrant, leather, smoked meat and resiny oak. Smoke, game and cinnamon in the mouth; not quite up to the '98 in depth of flavor or grip.
