The 1988 La Louvière is fully mature on the nose with tea leaf and mocha notes imposing upon what scant fruit remains. The palate is now defined by rather gritty tannin, austere in style with a tapered, slightly ossified finish. Given all that, there is a sense of energy and I find it does respond to aeration and gains some weight. But overall, I would consume any bottles within the next three or four years. Tasted at the Académie du Vin dinner.

About the producer
Wine has been made at this estate since the 1300s, but its modern history begins when the Lurton family purchased it in 1965. The property was in disrepair, but the Lurtons have restored the château, winery and vineyards.
