Score 90/100 · Drink 2003-2008, Robert Parker, Feb 2004

A thrilling effort, the 2001 Cotes du Rhone Les Garrigues possesses copious quantities of melted licorice intermixed with crushed pepper, medium body, plenty of power, and a lush, sexy, voluptuous style. This beauty can compete with many producers’ Chateauneuf du Papes. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Cellars, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 358-1565

(from 70-year-old grenache vines) Dark red. Explosive nose features bitter cherry, raspberry, gunflint, clove and garrigue Supple, dense and highly concentrated, with ripe acids giving life to the pliant, roasted fruit flavors. Finishes very long and spicy, with ripe, sweet tannins and lingering notes of roasted herbs and chocolate. Chateauneuf du Pape in all but name.
