Tasted blind at the Southward 2012 tasting, the 2012 Ferrière came across as a little green on the nose, pinched at first and never really mustering requisite fruit intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with "stringy" tannins, earthy red fruit and a slightly attenuated finish. I harbored modest expectations from this Ferrière out of barrel, but on this occasion I felt it just lacked a bit of vigor. Tasted January 2016.

Tasted blind. Very non-classic nose. Burly and a bit brutal. Inky with underripe fruit. (JR)

Deep crimson. Coffee, dustiness and cassis-leaf aromas. Lots of capsicum. Lacks ripe fruit on the palate, though there is some sweetness so the tannins are a bit dry on the finish. (JH)
