Dark, glowing and sweet, mellow, evolved nose. The fruit is just a little lacking in focus and freshness – almost as though there were some non-classic oak used here. But it’s flattering... (JR)

Lovely sumptuous layered ruby. Seductively perfumed – almost floral. Fully evolved but with lovely ripe fruit in evidence and ripe tannins well in retreat. A very complete, attractive wine, although it is far from overripe... For classicists. (JR)

This 1996 exhibits a dark ruby color, and a stern, unevolved, backward personality with hard tannin in the finish. Nevertheless, there is fine ripeness, good purity, and a medium-bodied, traditional style. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2014.
