Drinking beautifully today, the 2005 Château Branas Grand Poujeaux has lots of darker currant and blackberry like fruit as well as some tobacco and saddle leather notes. It’s medium to full-bodied, textured, has fine tannins, and a great finish. Drink this beautiful Moulis over the coming 5-7 years.

The 2005 Branas Grand Poujeaux is an improvement on the nose compared to prior vintages, fresh with redcurrant, orange rind and brown spices. Fully mature. The palate is medium-bodied with black pepper tinged red fruit, black plum and sage. A little austere towards the finish, yet there is more delineation and persistence than any vintage thus far. Tasted at the Branas Grand Poujeaux vertical at the château.
Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Relatively haunting bouquet. Sweet and rich start. Quite jazzy and attention-grabbing without being overdone. A wine with vitality and a beginning, middle and end. GV (JR)
Very deep healthy crimson. Full, scented, rather burgundian in its voluptuous all-enveloping perfume and light toastiness. Rich start – rather like a Derenoncourt wine. But pretty tart, drying finish after that lovely come-hither start. Long. (JR)
