Barolo commune. Still a note of purple. Vegy mulch notes. Dry tannins on the end. Very ambitious. Very firm. Convincing rather than just dry. (JR)

Cavallotto is one of the most important producers in the Castiglione Falletto who hasn't made a mistake in the last 10 years, according to Ziliani. This is their entry level Barolo. The more complex 2004s have not been released yet. Owns 23ha vines on a semi amphitheatre – facing south west . From Castiglione Falletto in the exact centre of the zone. Lustrous crimson. Lots of ripe fruit and very expressively seductive on the nose though not especially concentrated. Notably aromatic – some prunes? Masses of savoury tannin though very rich, lively fungal flavours on the mid palate. Clean, brisk finish, but overall a little dead on the finish. (JR)

The 2004 Barolo Bricco Boschis tastes just like it did from barrel, which is to say sweet, layered and totally irresistible. The ripe red fruit is incredibly primary, and this wine is years away from offering its finest drinking, but it is already very impressive at this stage. This is an especially refined, elegant vintage for this wine, and I can only say that I await the Riservas with eager anticipation.
