Score 93/100 · Drink 2012-2025, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Feb 2008

The 2005 Cenit is 100% Tinta de Toro from 60- to over 100-year-old ungrafted vines. The wine was barrel fermented and aged for 18 months new oak. Deep crimson-colored, it has a superb bouquet of cedar, wood smoke, saddle leather, tobacco, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry. Full-bodied, rich, and opulent, the wine is intense, complex, and structured for several years of cellaring. It should be at its best from 2012 to 2025. The region of Tierra del Vino de Zamora should have been included in the Toro D.O. but was overlooked when the boundaries were drawn. Vinas del Cenit has a total of 44 hectares, 15% of which are ungrafted 100-year-old vines used to make Triton. Importer: Jorge Ordonez, Fine Estates From Spain, Tel: (781) 461-5767

100% Tempranillo, 18 months in French oak. New Zealand winemaker Amy Hopkinson. Rich, dense and fresh with a dryish finish plus a nice savoury, mineral note that lingers long. (JH)

Inky violet. Exotically perfumed nose displays suave dark berries, chocolate, roasted coffee and vanilla. Supple blackberry and blueberry flavors are impressively deep, with inviting sweetness and a long, sappy, gently tannic finish. The French oak here was all new but doesn't intrude on the impressively pure fruit of this impeccably balanced wine.
