Tasting notes
The spectacular 1996 Hermitage Chevalier de Sterimberg (33% Roussanne and 67% Marsanne) has been 100% barrel-fermented, put through 100% malolactic fermentation, and aged in 100% new oak. However, the oak is completely submerged beneath the wine's extraordinary rose petal, apricot, nutty, and peach-like richness. The wine displays huge quantities of glycerin, a sensational texture, and terrific purity and depth. This spectacular offering is capable of lasting for 10-20+ years. Pale, green-tinged color. Scented nose combines lemon, pear, flowers, hay and orange peel. Silky and dense in the mouth, but terrific acidity gives clarity to the apple and pear flavors. Note of confiture . Strong, spicy, gripping aftertaste.
