Really deep blackish garnet. A very rich – almost cocoa – nose. Much 'thicker' than the Canon 2005 served alongside. Dense, sweet and sour but clearly a mature Pomerol! (JR)

The 2005 Gazin is a powerful, structured Pomerol. Red berry fruit, iron, white pepper, chalk and mint lend quite a bit of brightness. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2005 packs a serious punch, with huge, persistent tannins that lend shape and explosive energy through to the finish.
Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Light, biscuity nose. Very fresh and vivid even if there is not quite enough fruit concentration. Very slightly scrawny on the end. (JR)
The 2005 Gazin is a big, masculine, full-throttle Pomerol that comes closer to the style of a Pauillac than some of the other Pomerols. Nevertheless, this wine is locked and loaded, with an inky plum/purple color, stunning concentration, a boatload of tannin, and unlimited upside potential. Sweet cassis, plum, vanilla and truffle notes are followed by a dense, deep, profound wine with blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, high extraction, and a multi-layered texture. This is a long distance runner, even for a 2005, and probably won’t even be close to full maturity for another decade. It should easily last 30 or more years.

Representing a single block of vines on the plateau, Ch. Gazin is one of Pomerol’s largest estates, owned by the Bailliencourt dit Courcol family since the early 20th century.
