Score 87/100 · Drink 2019-2021, Neal Martin, Sep 2022

The 1962 Gazin has a mahogany core with a light tuile rim. The nose gives off a lot of funk - not corked - but very earthy with singed leather scents. But the palate is a delight: beautifully balanced, mellow and melted with notes of kirsch, orange zest, marmalade and brown spices. It displays wonderful delineation on the finish with commendable length. Sure, it is rustic and frayed at the seams, but an enjoyable Gazin from an era where its wines were not reputed. Poured over lunch during Burgfest.
