Tasting notes
Score 16+/20 · Jancis Robinson, Sep 2005

Many other tasters were more impressed by this vintage than I was. The colour was impressively dark still and the nose rich, redolent of molasses and even coconut. Then, again, acidity dominated the palate. More volume than either the 1949 or 1947 but still quite tart on the finish. Sweet and rather decayed. Jean Louis Charmolüe said that no-one really talked about it when it was young, unlike the vintages either side of it. (JR)
