Tasting notes
The organic Cordero di Montezemolo 2019 Barolo Gattera shows a rich and concentrated performance with robust aromas of dark fruit, dried cherry, plum, spice and soft tobacco. The blend comes from old vines within the Gattera MGA with a clone that produces especially small and compact clusters. This wine offers a 360-degree view onto a vintage that is remarked upon for the extra concentration and fruit weight displayed in the wines. There is a note of candied licorice on the full-bodied finish. This is a 6,200-bottle release.

The 2019 Barolo Gattera is packed with wild cherry, spice, new leather, licorice, blood orange and mint. A potent, deep wine, the Gattera offers notable breadth and plenty of richness. Even with all of its intensity, the 2019 remains vibrant, with a feeling of explosive energy that only increases over time. The 2019 spent about 18 months in a combination of cask and smaller French oak barrels.
Deep lustrous ruby. A finer, more complex nose than the Monfalletto and with stony, minerally notes. More and more perfumed with aeration and showing a hint of elegant oak. A layer of nervous, edgy tannins rolls over the fruit on the finish. Still very young and a little austere, but with lots of promise. (WS)
