2018 Francois Buffet - Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru

The 2018 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru has an attractive, well-defined nose, a mixture of red and black fruit. It does not possess the same degree of vigour or delineated as Comtes-Lafon's Clos des Chênes. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite smooth in texture with dark chocolate and infused red fruit. There is some toastiness on the finish that detracts from the complexity and renders this a little cloying and pruney. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
