The 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru might be even better than the Les Lavières with complex aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, bay leaf and crushed red roses. The palate is very detailed and poised, surfeit with tension and energy with a peacock's tail on the finish that just leaves you gasping for the next sip. Highly recommended. Tasted at Goedhuis & Co.'s annual Burgundy tasting in London.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots has a sophisticated, well-defined, expressive bouquet with red plum, redcurrant and raspberry fruit, nicely integrated oak that allows sous-bois aromas to percolate through with aeration. Lovely focus here! The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well judged acidity, focused and quite intense with admirable tension on the finish. It requires 4-5 years in bottle but it will reward those with patience. Tasted September 2016.

Deep red with ruby highlights. Pungent perfume of black cherry, raspberry, minerals and licorice. Juicy but tightly wound, hinting at a racy high note of blood orange. All of these wines are showing firm tannic spine today but hiding their fat.

Closed, but a true representation of that northern Nuits style: silky blackberry and refined tannin, with fullish body. Lovely. (AH)
