The 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru has a vivacious, rather minty bouquet that leaps from the glass. Not complex, yet vigorous. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, more density than the Les Jarrons with just a hint of charcuterie on the finish. Good potential.
Outstanding Top value. Not surprisingly, this is aromatically similar to the Jarrons though with more floral influence. There is however notably better mid-palate density to the beautifully textured flavors thanks to the mouthcoating dry extract that also serves to buffer the firm tannic spine shaping the powerful, moderately austere and hugely long finish. I would strongly advise not opening a bottle for at least a decade and this should ultimately repay 12 to 15 years of keeping.
From a parcel planted in 1902, the 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode is performing superbly, exhibiting aromas of sweet red berries, petals, orange rind, licorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, this charming, layered wine exudes a sense of effortlessness.
