Mass selection, 5 ha. Was once within the commune of Gevrey but was pushed out the village appellation by a boundary change in 1964, the year Joseph Arlaud bought the vineyard. Bottled November 2020. Mid cherry red. Fragrant and lightly peppery. Dark-red, pure fruit. Intense purity of fruit without any obvious fruit sweetness. Fresh, vibrant, absolutely delicious now – and why wait? – but will age a few years thanks to the finesse of the definite tannins. Super-refined Bourgogne. So persistent. (JH)

The 2019 Bourgogne Roncevie was quite primal on the nose, packed with ripe red fruit, kirsch and cassis, but obviously had some way to go through its élevage. The palate is again, sweet and candied in style with saturated tannins and a rounded, generous finish.
