The 2020 Corton Grand Cru is well-defined and focused on the nose, with a mélange of red and black fruit. Cedar and tobacco hints emerge with time. It has a soft, rounded entry with lower acidity, quite plush for a Corton, but it doesn't have the structure and precision of the best wines in this flight. Corpulent finish. Drink this over the next 15 years. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet dark berries, cassis and spices, the 2020 Corton Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with terrific depth at the core, chalky tannins and lively acids. It will demand a bit of patience, but it will be worth the wait.

Cask sample. Notes of framboise on the nose. Good freshness and balance of tannins and subtle oak. Just lacking a bit of complexity and the weight/persistence expected of a grand cru. Hints of spice to finish. (AWH)
