Score 90/100 · Drink 2019-2027, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Oct 2019
Moderately saturated medium red with an amber tinge. Musky, fully evolved scents of strawberry, raspberry, dried rose and clove. A distinctly leaner style on the palate, without the flesh or concentration I would have expected from the low crop level. Sound balancing acidity clashes a bit with the firm tannins, giving the finish a somewhat disjointed, dry impression and a distinct dustiness. I wanted more sweetness and length. There was a lot of rot in 1998, noted Marie-Christine, and the sorting table was critical. (13.2% alcohol; 33 hl/h; 3.4 pH; harvested on September 19)
