Tasting notes
Coming from a site at the base of Howell Mountain (this is now released as Morgan's Way), the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan is drinking at point and is fully mature, with a gorgeous bouquet of ripe currants, white truffle, sweet tobacco, and forest floor. Blind, I'd guess a great, fully mature Saint-Emilion, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a seamless, layered, elegant mouthfeel, resolved tannins, and a great finish. This complex, regal, gorgeous Cabernet isn't going to get any better, but it should continue drinking nicely through 2030 if you feel like pushing it.

Medium garnet colored, the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard opens with the most gorgeous floral notes of red roses, dried lavender and kirsch with a core of crème de cassis, blackberry compote and redcurrant jelly plus wafts of cinnamon stick and fragrant earth. Full-bodied, rich and decadent, it completely coats the palate with seductively perfumed fruit with a velvety texture and a very long, spicy finish.
Good full red. Deep aromas of raspberry, red cherry, caramel and balsamic cedar, plus a hint of cinnamon red hots. Fat, full and very sweet; a round, utterly seamless wine given shape by harmonious acidity. This very juicy wine conveys an impression of power with elegance and finishes with lovely sneaky length and spicy lift. The crop level here was just under 1-1/2 tons per acre in 2000. If anything, this wine got better with air, suggesting it still has years ahead of it. A terrific first release for this wine, from a very tricky vintage. (ST)
This 2000 has always reminded me of a Pomerol, and I felt it would be starting its decline by age ten. Well, at age 12, it exhibits extraordinarily velvety, supple-textured tannins as well as a stunning nose of creme de cassis, licorice, forest floor and a mocha/chocolaty, plush Pomerol-like personality (even though there is no Merlot in it). Revealing great presence and complexity, this fully mature 2000 should keep for another decade. (RP)
