The 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis Village has a tightly wound bouquet with sullen black fruit, gravel and earthy scents, never quite getting into its (aromatic) stride. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasing, fleshy cranberry and redcurrant entry, and a fine bead of acidity. It fans out with some gusto on the finish, as if compensating for the aromatics. I would give this wine another year in bottle and it should come good. Tasted at Flint Wines’ Taupenot-Merme retrospective.

(from three disparate parcels, one of them with a lot of millerandage ): Bright medium red. Inviting aromas of red berries, smoky minerals and clove. Silkier in texture than the Chambolle villages but classically dry, with harmonious acidity giving it good cut. Finishes with a touch of youthful austerity and good length. Has a bit more mid-palate stuffing to support its tannins than the village Chambolle.
The 2014 Morey St Denis Villages is more reticent, less communicative on the nose compared to the Chambolle Villages. The palate has a touch of sour cherry on the entry, slightly bony tannin at the moment with a terse finish that should flesh out a little after bottling (though my preference remains for the Chambolle Villages).
