A wine that vividly shows the folly of discounting a vintage, The Vineyardist's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Calarcadia Vineyard is a stupendous effort that doesn't appear to have been adversely affected by the year's early September heat, largely because of its elevation and eastern exposure. Hints of cedar, pencil shavings and crushed stone accent bold cassis fruit on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich, round and supple up front, then tightens up on the long finish, wrapped in dusty tannins. Cellaring is a given.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Calarcadia Vineyard sports a deep ruby/plum color to go with a smoking nose of darker fruits, scorched earth, dark chocolate, and graphite that has more intensity and density than just about every other wine in the vintage. Concentrated, full-bodied, and powerful, with beautiful symmetry and balance, it's a riveting 2022 that defines the challenges of the vintage. It needs about an hour of air if drinking any time soon and should be at its best from 2026-2040.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Calarcadia Vineyard is bright and nicely focused. Iron, white pepper, mint, licorice, dried herbs and red/purplish fruit are all laced together in this mid-weight Cabernet. The 2022 is attractive, although it is a bit light in body and overall structure, as most wines are in this vintage.
