(from vines planted in 2005 on volcanic soil in Conn Valley upslope from Anderson Conn Valley): Bright medium ruby. Very dark aromas of blackberry, purple flowers and minerals, plus a whiff of tobacco; hints at almost syrupy ripeness but shows good lift too. A seamless, fine-grained fruit bomb in the mouth, but with a restrained sweetness to its dark berry flavors. Finishes with substantial but very fine tannins. Winemaker Thomas Brown wants to see a bit more tannic grip, but the quality of the fruit here suggests that this will be a project to watch as the vines mature.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the softer, silkier wines of the year. Sweet red berries, flowers, spices and mint are woven together in this hugely attractive, seamless Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a 2010 with plenty of early appeal.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the softer, silkier wines of the year. Sweet red berries, flowers, spices and mint are woven together in this hugely attractive, seamless Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a 2010 with plenty of early appeal. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. These are the first wines I have tasted from Stone the Crows and proprietor Rick Talmadge. The estate’s Three Twins Vineyard is located in Conn Valley and was planted in 2005. Thomas Rivers Brown heads the winemaking team. Needless to say, this is an amazing level of quality for such a young operation. I can hardly wait to see what the future brings. Tel. (707) 968-0603; info@stonethecrowswine.com
