Score 93+/100 · Drink 2021-2029, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2015

Bright lemon-yellow color. Deep, musky aromas of lemon, lime, white peach, nut oils and wild herbs. Densely packed and highly concentrated but less fruity and more backward today than the Bienvenue, with its well-delineated flavors of white peach and white flowers nicely supported by harmonious acidity and underlying minerality. This substantial wine has the balance to ensure a graceful evolution in bottle. Pernot's Bievenue is located on the Puligny side of its appellation while his Batard is in Chassagne, which explains why the latter wine is usually weightier and deeper, not to mention more backward in the early going.

Fascinating nose offers scents of menthol, white pepper, noble herbs and black raspberry jelly. Rich and saline, fatter and more massive than the Bienvenue but less aromatic in the mouth in the early going. A strong flavor of ripe peach carries through to the ripe, lush finish, but there's also plenty of underlying minerality here. These are very impressive 2013s
