Tasting notes
Bright medium red. Expressive aromas of redcurrant, mocha, herbs, licorice, cola and nutty oak, with a rose petal nuance emerging with air. Supple and pliant in the mouth, with harmonious acidity framing the flavors of red berries, licorice and spices. Not especially complex but offers good intensity and lift. Some tart acidity and dusty tannins contribute to a slight medicinal character of the finish, which hints at dark plum. This wine says 15% alcohol on the label but I never would have guessed it.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino wafts from the glass with sweet red cherries, crushed flowers, spices and licorice. Ripe, silky tannins frame the long, polished finish. This is an especially refined, gracious Brunello from Fanti.

Medium ruby with orange rim. Mellow and easygoing, and not terribly demanding. Some tough tannins on the finish. (WS)
