Medium red. Pungent aromas of redcurrant, pomegranate, tobacco and brown spices. A wine with moderate weight and fleshiness; dusty, spicy flavors of redcurrant, iron, tobacco and earth convey the ripeness of the vintage. Shows good breadth but not yet especially filled in. Hints of leather and earth add complexity. This satisfying, soil-driven wine is already quite expressive, Finishes with dusty tannins and a very good saline persistence.

Deep crimson for a Chalonnaise red. Rather suave and world-weary on the nose! As though it has been round the block a few times. A little austere on the end but very lip-smacking. Should be a great food partner. One to choose from a restaurant wine list when in doubt? GV (JR)

(13.5% natural alcohol; this wine had been in stainless steel since the beginning of October and was scheduled to be bottled the week after my mid-November visit): Bright, dark red. Spicy, high-pitched aromas and flavors of raspberry, pomegranate and orange zest. Juicy and intense, showing moderate fleshiness and a light touch. The clay and limestone soil here includes an iron component.

(a monopole of Domaine Faiveley). A ripe and attractively fresh nose features notes of violet, plum, earth and dark currant. There is both good detail and energy to the sleekly textured middle weight flavors that deliver solid length on the balanced finish that displays only a touch of rusticity.
