Mature, dried fruit with a little chemical note lingering in the background. Medium body, beef-gravy flavour on the finish, but as the fruit is now almost dry, there is an increasing soupiness to this – needs drinking up. (RH)

Good dark healthy garnet colour. Classic sweet mature claret. Just the job! Long and beautiful balance. (JR)

Really lively and fragrant with much more charm than most St-Estèphes usually show. I wonder how the famous Ch Montrose 1990 would have shown? This splits the difference between the slightly demanding terroir effect and the richness of the vintage. Great balance. Slightly mineral notes. Rich, round and fruity. Clean, fresh and dense. Very much over-delivers. (JR)
