The 2017 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a well-defined nose, focused and gaining intensity with aeration, a touch of stems infusing the black fruit. The palate is very well balanced with fine delineation, poised and elegant, building toward a fresh, blood-orange- and tangerine-infused finish that lingers in the mouth. A Clos-de-Bèze that will drink earlier than others. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru contains 100% whole bunch fruit, matured entirely in new oak, which is barely noticeable on the nose, allowing the terroir to show through. Indeed, it is almost as difficult to discern the stem addition – a positive attribute, in my opinion. The fresh, taut palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and quite linear in style, stricter than Les Amoureuses, with a more saline/marine-influenced finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent, though I might have a soft spot for the Les Amoureuses and the Bonnes-Mares this year.
