Bringing up the rear is no less than the 2012 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru from Domaine Georges Roumier. This vintage was actually missing from the vertical a few months ago, so it is a pleasure to revisit. Raspberry and wild strawberry on the nose that is bolder than expected. The 2012 eventually calms down and reveals more mineralité. The palate is still relatively backward with grippy tannins, suggesting that it might benefit from another couple of years in bottle. Persistent with vibrant redcurrant and raspberry on the finish, this is an impressive Les Cras that will drink longer than initially expected.

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Cras from Christophe Roumier was showing a lot of reduction on the nose, yet underneath one can find lovely blackberry, game and dried blood aromas coming through mixed with autumn leaves and woodland scents. There is something very natural here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, quite masculine and structured in style with good acidity, moving towards a harmonious, saline finish that beckons another sip.

Dark, bright red. Raspberry, spices and crushed stone on the vibrant nose and palate. A distinctly rocky, precise style, offering terrific lift and verve and a steely spine of acidity. Spreads out to saturate the palate without leaving any impression of weight. Lovely lingering perfume. Lay this one down for a while.
