The 2017 Chablis Vosgros 1er Cru is showing a bit of vanilla-y new oak on the nose that slightly obscures the terroir expression. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity neatly offsetting the tropical tones – hints of passion fruit and guava – that come through with time. I appreciate the bitterness that completes this really impressive Chablis, which should age with style. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Chablis Vosgros 1er Cru is a wine of tremendous substance and overall depth. On the palate, the 2017 possesses remarkable vertical lift, with everything from the bass notes to the lifted, floral aromatics. Apricot, lemon confit, dried flowers and vanillin develop in the glass, but more than anything else the Vosgros is a wine to admire for its sumptuous, engaging personality. Personally I would pair it with richer foods, like lobster. Dense, creamy, and layered, the 2017 is all class; not to mention incredibly delicious.
Picq's 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Vosgros is performing brilliantly from bottle, wafting from the glass with notes of fresh peach, green apples, almond paste and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny-textured, with a lively spine of acidity, excellent concentration and a saline, mouthwatering finish. Picq told me that he's now using larger-diameter corks for this bottling to ensure it fulfills all its potential in the cellar.
The 2017 Chablis Vosgros apparently had a difficult fermentation that was very slow this year and as a consequence it will probably be bottled later, early next year. The bouquet is more muted than the Vaucoupin at the moment partly because of the tardy ferment, so this is difficult to read at the moment. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity, very focused and lively, delivering the power and precision towards the grippy finish. It will certainly merit three or four years in bottle, so have a cellar handy.
