The same can be said for the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Solo. Silverado Vineyards has done some great work over recent vintages, but I cannot muster much enthusiasm for these 2002s. Both of these wines came across as extremely acidified and manipulated, with the acids far too high for the level of concentration. Such acidification adjustments give the wine a tartness, compress the texture, make the finish very angular, and exacerbate the rawness of the tannins. Those are problems with both of these wines. While they may have had wonderful raw materials, those components have been undermined by the acidification. Tel. (707) 257-1770

Bright, saturated red-ruby. Aromas of black fruits, menthol, coffee and mocha. Then surprisingly sweet, supple and seamless, with enticing dark fruits and spicy oak spreading over the palate. Broad and creamy; seems distinctly more pliant and graceful than the Limited bottling. Finishes with toothcoating tannins and very good breadth. Also tasted: 2002 Merlot Napa Valley.
