The 1955 Petrus is a vintage not encountered for some time. Quite intense on the nose, it offers very finely delineated blackberry, cedar, Earl Grey and light earthy scents, alongside hints of wilted rose petals. The palate is sedate at first, yet it gains intensity and delineation as it opens in the glass. This has wonderful finesse with dark cherry, rooibos and subtle white pepper notes. There is a symmetry that I really appreciate about this Pomerol—you can just sit back and watch it grow in the glass. It is excellent. Tasted at "Koala's" Bordeaux dinner in Hong Kong.
