Score 90/100 · Drink 2026-2036, Neal Martin, Apr 2026

The 2016 Monbousquet has quite a high-toned bouquet that lacks a bit of refinement. The palate is medium-bodied with a savoury entry, slightly dry and gritty tannins, graphite emerging towards the second half, with a fine cohesive, slightly Left Bank-styled finish. Fine. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

The 2016 Monbousquet has a very attractive bouquet offering copious dark cherry and boysenberry fruit, light floral scents and hints of undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite tertiary in style and needing just a little more flesh toward the finish. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Very dark blackish crimson. Warm and round and sweet but with decent freshness too. Fruit smothers tannins to good effect. Drying finish though. (JR)
